BEIRUT, May 22, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Thursday at the Grand Serail in Beirut.
President Abbas briefed the Lebanese Prime Minister on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, including the ongoing war of genocide and the killing of tens of thousands of civilians, the majority of whom are women and children; the policy of blockade and starvation in the Gaza Strip; and the ongoing aggression and settlement expansion in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.
The President commended the efforts of the Lebanese state in fulfilling its international obligations and preserving Lebanon's security, stability, and sovereignty.
President Abbas affirmed the State of Palestine's respect for Lebanon's unity and territorial integrity. He emphasized that the Palestinian people in Lebanon are temporary guests until their return to their homeland, Palestine. He also emphasized that refugee camps are under the sovereignty of the Lebanese state and army, and that there are no weapons outside the framework of the state.
The President praised Lebanon's supportive stance on the Palestinian cause and the two-state solution, which preserves the rights of the Palestinian people, ends their suffering, and achieves the desired stability in the region. He expressed his great pride in the historical fraternal relations between Palestine and Lebanon, and his aspiration to develop and advance them for the benefit of both countries and their brotherly peoples.
The two sides agreed to form a joint committee to strengthen bilateral relations and improve the conditions of Palestinians in Lebanon.
