Due to Israeli aggression, the population of the Gaza
has decreased by 6% by the end of 2024
RAMALLAH, January 5, 2025 (WAFA) — President Mahmoud Abbas received the 2024 Annual Statistical Report today at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, during a meeting with the Head of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, Ola Awad.
Awad presented the key findings of the report, which indicates that the total Palestinian population has reached approximately 15 million. Of these, 5.5 million Palestinians currently reside in the State of Palestine as of the end of 2024.
The report also highlighted the significant impact of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza. According to the statistics, the population of the Gaza Strip has decreased by 6% by the end of 2024, with more than 45,000 Palestinian martyrs reported since the beginning of the Israeli assault.
In his response, President Abbas expressed his deep concern over the alarming figures, particularly the population decline in Gaza, attributing it to the brutal Israeli aggression.
He described the numbers as "horrifying," underscoring the extent of the atrocities committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people. President Abbas reiterated the urgent need for international intervention to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2735, which calls for an immediate ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
He also called for the State of Palestine to fully assume responsibility in Gaza to alleviate the suffering of its people.
The President commended the efforts of the PCBS teams for their diligent work in providing accurate data, particularly in Gaza, which serves as a vital resource for Palestinian decision-makers.
He emphasized that this data is crucial for shaping both immediate and long-term plans aimed at improving the well-being of the Palestinian population.
